At Kaihana, each creation carries a story, an encounter, an intention. For Alma Selva , I wanted to highlight not only the artwork, but also the artist and the person behind this co-creation. To let you discover her world, what inspires her, what drives her, and how our values naturally aligned.
This interview with Ladislas was conceived as an immersion into his world: his perspective on nature, his deep connection to Mexico, and his vision of art as a bridge between humanity and biodiversity. It is also a way to share the creative process behind Alma Selva and to honor the energy that fueled this collaboration.
An eco-surrealist look at nature
In his artistic approach, Ladislas explores a universe he calls " eco-surrealism ." He blends dreams, natural elements, and visual imagination. His work revolves around terrestrial, aquatic, and aerial forces, which he fuses into dreamlike compositions.
For this collaboration with Kaihana, he drew inspiration from the richness of Mexican biodiversity. The silk square format allowed him to create a veritable "natural mandala," inspired by the colors, textures, and shapes observed during his travels. A piece that condenses the essence of an ecosystem and imbues it with an almost sacred dimension.
Mexico, a lasting source of inspiration
Mexico holds a deep place in Ladislas's imagination. He draws inspiration from its vibrant culture, its myths, its ancient civilizations, and its contemporary creativity. His journey there left a lasting impression on him, marked by the richness of its landscapes and the species he encountered.
Alma Selva thus becomes a tribute to this immersion : an echo of the jungle, of intense colours, of the symbolic power of Mexican nature.
A collaboration guided by meaning and values
At Kaihana, the ocean, art, and environmental preservation hold a central place. This vision made the collaboration with Ladislas so natural. He shares this conviction: art can create an emotional connection between the public and nature .
Her artistic approach, imbued with empathy and environmental sensitivity, resonates perfectly with Kaihana's mission.
Alma Selva, an inspired talisman
For Ladislas, Alma Selva is conceived as a " nature talisman ," a silk square imbued with energy, symbols, and vibrant diversity. An artistic object that reconnects us to the beauty of species and to the nature of which we are a part.
Full interview with Ladislas
Your artistic approach explores the elements and energy of nature. What did you seek to convey in this co-creation with Kaihana, and how did this connection to the elements guide your work?
Through my artwork, I enjoy exploring a visual universe inspired by the diversity of nature. In this personal artistic universe I explore—" eco-surrealism "—I am guided by a dreamlike vision, where I blend terrestrial, aquatic, and aerial elements. This collaboration allowed me to explore, through the format of the "silk square," the richness of Mexican biodiversity. The colors, shapes, and textures I observed during my stay, and my desire to pay homage to this natural beauty in this painting, through a "natural mandala," are the inspiration behind it.
Mexico holds a special place in your imagination. How did this culture, its colours, its symbols or its landscapes influence the piece we created together?
It's true, Mexico has long been a source of inspiration for me. I love the richness of its culture, the extraordinary creativity that can be found in its legends, in the works of pre-Columbian civilizations as well as in more contemporary works.
There is a kind of celebration of nature, of its strength and power, that I find in Mexican art.
I love drawing inspiration from this world and its symbolism . I also love the complexity of Mexican art, which echoes the richness of its landscapes and the species I observed during my travels. This "Alma Selva" scarf is, in a way, an artistic tribute to the nature I immersed myself in during my trip.
Kaihana champions a deep connection with the ocean, art, and the preservation of our environment. How does your art align with this vision, and why did this collaboration make sense to you?
I believe this collaboration made perfect sense . I'm keen to collaborate with people and on projects that share similar ecological values. The Kaihana brand shares these values and also uses creativity and visual art to connect with the public. These two aspects are very much aligned with my vision. Through creativity, dreams, and art, I want to recreate an emotional connection between the public and nature . This connection is forged through painting, which allows me to address environmental themes with a more inspiring and empathetic approach .
If you had to summarize in one sentence what you would like people to feel when wearing or contemplating this creation, what would it be?
Through this " Alma Selva " collaboration, I wanted to create a kind of "nature talisman" inspired by Mexico . A silk square that generally symbolizes the richness of the species with which we coexist and a way to recreate this connection with them through this artistic object.
